Biography

He was born between 1774 and 1778 in Lancashire, Eng.2 William Armitage and Margaret (Peggy) Taylor were married on 27 July 1802 in St Michael, Ashton Under Lyne, Lancashire, Eng, The mothers name for Joseph's birth is given as Margaret but there is no other record for a William and Margaret Armitage in Ashton, all other records refer to a Peggy. As Peggy is the usual nickname for Margaret I am very confident this family is the correct one.1 He died between 1841 and 1849 in Lancashire, Eng.3,2
William Armitage had reference number LAN. He had a residence in 1816 in Ashton Under Lyne, Lancashire, Eng.1 He worked as a a Cotton Spinner in 1841.4,5
